Mill Street Arch Bridge & Power Dam
After the fire that destoyed the covered bridge, mill and original wooded crib dam a new concrete arch bridge was constructed finally giving a connection for autos and trolleys between River and Mill streets. Also at this time Western Mass Electric Co. built a new concrete dam and hydro elelctric power house that operated until the 1950's. That concrete dam, although in need of some minor repairs, survives today with the potential to produce 1.2 megawatts of clean energy. A new bridge built in 1980 replaced the arch bridge and the grade and roadbed line were greatly altered. The road moved closer to the wood section of the existing mill complex and buried the area where the power house was.
